Jack’s Walk of Shame

Jack’s Walk of Shame

As you can imagine, working at a radio station (or five of them) can be a pretty fun job. Playing music, chatting on air, and even putting on concerts is both challenging and rewarding.

And radio stations are notorious for wacky promotions. Take our morning show host on KLIN 1400 AM, Jack Mitchell. He fancies himself a bit of an amateur meteorologist, but has done a terrible job with his 60-Degree Guarantee – a proclamation that Lincoln will not see another day with a high temperature of less than 60 degrees for the rest of that spring and summer.

It took all of four days for Jack’s boast on April 21 to fall short, and so once again, as penance, he was required to walk 25 miles across Lincoln in a Walk of Shame.

I followed Jack on his trip, capturing as much of the walk as possible, while also snapping pics to help update KLIN’s social media.

The high temperature reached 87 degrees on the day of Jack’s walk, but with the help of several family, friends, and supporters, he was able to complete his trek just in time to finish his 5 p.m. show. He also raised more than $28,000 for the Mourning Hope Grief Center, a nonprofit that supports children, teens, and families during the serious illness or death of a loved one.
