An Incredible May

Finally got a Saturday off after three straight weekends of sports, but don’t be fooled. Like I told LNK Today’s Jack Mitchell, “When Nebraska is doing something big. I want to be a part of it.” These past three weekends have been a blast. And as an added bonus, I got a little sun going into the summer.
I’m not sure I remember a year like this. Nebraska Men’s Basketball had their most historic season ever, the women’s team made the NCAA Tournament, Husker Volleyball spent most of the 2025 campaign atop the national polls, and then baseball and softball both made the postseason.
Women’s sports have exploded over the past several years, and with Nebraska at the forefront of that, I’m a pretty lucky guy to have been able to document and experience so much of it first-hand. Would we all like for our blue-blooded football program to restore its former glory? Of course, but in eight years of shooting Division I athletics and getting such a close look at all these other sports that I didn’t use to look as closely at, I’ve learned that there’s a never-ending supply of great stories, great achievements, and great people in so many communities across this land.
To be fair, this was a crazy handful of weekends. It began with the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 15, and I really wanted to capture as much of it as I could, but Nebraska Softball was also hosting the Lincoln Regional later that night. And then I hadn’t shot a track meet in years, so there was a fair amount of wasted motion.
Still, I was able to get some really cool shots of the women’s pole vault before heading over to Bowlin Stadium. I wanted to come back for the two 10,000-meter races at the end of the night, but a thunderstorm rolled through, and when they made the decision to continue later that night, I decided that with a show to produce the following morning, I wasn’t going to make it back. I did get some great shots that weekend of softball too, including a picture of Alexis Jensen that I was able to turn into this graphic for B107.3.
With Nebraska Softball on the verge of reaching their first Women’s College World Series in 13 years, I made the decision the next weekend that I was sticking with them until the end before heading up to Omaha for the overlapping Big Ten Baseball Tournament. But I really wanted to get up there for fresh photos, knowing they were likely to host their own regional the following weekend.
As anyone who attends spring sports knows, Mother Nature has her own plans. Thursday night’s softball regional was delayed until Friday, and Husker Baseball barely got their Friday night game in. When I did finally get up there Saturday night, Oregon blanked the Huskers 8-0, and then it was time to plan for live shows from Haymarket Park.
Wouldn’t you know it? Nebraska Baseball gets to host their own regional the next weekend and the weather showed up again. The Jack & Friends Regional Road Show live from Haymarket Park went out over the radio airwaves on Friday, but with rain pouring down on my laptop, we weren’t able to stream video. We got it figured out on Saturday and Sunday though.

The regional itself started off great, experienced yet another weather delay on Saturday, and flamed out on Sunday, but not before I got some incredible photos.
Again, I’m an extremely lucky guy. That’s not to say I don’t work incredibly hard, and I believe it shows in my work. But I would like to thank everyone who helps make my way of living possible. It really is The Good Life.
